Sustainability

Creating earth conscious, non-toxic body care alternatives that showcase the strengths of nature is at the core of what Prospect Apothecary aims to do. Accordingly, eco-friendly techniques are implemented at every stage of the process, from minimizing waste during product development to shipping entirely plastic-free (always).

Below is a list of the (constantly evolving) standards adopted at Prospect Apothecary to ensure the products are made in the most environmentally friendly way possible.

Responsibly Sourced Natural Ingredients

  • All ingredients are meticulously researched and thoughtfully selected based on a criteria that takes into consideration everything from farming practices to transit based carbon emissions

Effective Natural Ingredients

  • Every ingredient used has been shown, either through centuries of herbalist knowledge or western scientific standards, to be effective.

Simple, Multi-Purpose Formulas

  • Each formula is intended to be used for various needs and is marketed as such, so that you'll never be encouraged to purchase a redundant product that will clutter your medicine cabinet and lead to waste.

Small Batch

  • Creating in small batches ensures the products are of the highest quality while also limiting ingredient waste.

Gender Neutral

  • Every human with a body should have access to healthy, effective natural personal care products without being alienated by packaging that strictly conforms to traditional gender norms. Better yet, if a product doesn't end up working for you, you can re-gift to just about anyone, limiting unnecessary waste.

Eco-Friendly Product Packaging and Eco-Shipping

  • Product packaging and shipping materials will be ever evolving, however, I can guarantee that no plastic will be used to package or ship a product. Ever.
  • When deciding how to package a product, three aspects are taken into consideration:
    1. How much protection does this product need to remain fresh?
    2. How can I most-confidently ensure this product does not end up in a landfill?
    3. How can 1 and 2 be accomplished while limiting the carbon emissions accrued during shipment?
  • Shipping sustainable, artisanal personal care products is admittedly at odds with the concept of zero waste. I do my best to get these products from my studio to your front door in as eco-friendly a way possible. Currently, these are the materials you can expect:
    • Recyclable paper boxes
    • Compostable mailers
    • Biodegradable and recyclable paper shipping tape
    • Reused, recycled, and recyclable kraft packing paper
    • Compostable cheescloth
    • Compostable, reusable organic cotton string or organic hemp twine

Creating and transitioning to more sustainable products are ongoing, and constantly evolving conversations. If you have any questions, or would like to discuss any portion of how your new products are made, please don't hesitate to reach out.
